Nitrogen Loss Has Amazing Impact

Nitrogen loss during the 2009 Crop Growing Season had a significant impact on Corn Belt Yields.  University of Missouri Agronomist, Peter Scharf, indicated that a substantial amount of 2009 corn was unrealized.  Sharf estimated that Nitrogren deficiency reduced Missouri’s corn crop in 2009 by about 100 million bushels.  Compared that to the 438 million bushels produced by Missouri, this suggests we could have grown Missouri corn yields at least 20% more if the crop had not been limited by Nitrogen deficiency.  For more information, read more.
